Today I'm going to show you how to build a baseball bat from start to finish. I started out by picking the type of wood I wanted to construct my bat from. Ultimately I ended up choosing maple not only because of its strength and durability, but I really like the way it looks. I loaded up the bat billet onto my lathe and started the turning process. Once I had the bat shaped properly, I sanded the bat all the way up to 400 grit sandpaper. This gave me a super smooth finish and really paid off in the end. Once I was done on the lathe, I cut off the ends on my bandsaw and sanded those to match the contour of the bat. For the finish, I used black spray paint and a lacquer finish to protect everything. It's important to note that if you spray the lacquer too heavy over the paint, you can cause the paint to bubble up and peel off. So the best way to avoid this is do very light coats until the paint is sealed in and then you can really thicken up the coats once the paint is no longer at risk. Once the lacquer has dried, my bat was all done and is ready to hit the fields! Thank you for watching and check out the links below for even more information on this project!
